Becoming a National Trauma Recovery Center
A proven, evidence-based model that combines crisis intervention, trauma-informed mental health services, and practical support to break cycles of violence and remove barriers to healing.
A Proven Model
Developed by UC San Francisco in 2001, the TRC model was created specifically to serve survivors of violence who were falling through the cracks of traditional victim services. Since then, TRCs have demonstrated remarkable outcomes:
-
High rates of engagement in services (people stay connected to care)
- Significant improvements in mental health and wellness
- Comprehensive wraparound care that costs less than traditional fee-for-service treatment
- Effective linkage to community supports
More Than a Designation: Our Commitment

Access to cutting-edge research and best practices
-
Shared learning with leading trauma recovery programs

Advocacy for equitable, client-centered care nationwide

What this Means in practice
When you call Solace's Crisis Care line, you're not just getting a referral or a single service—you're gaining access to a comprehensive support system designed specifically for survivors of violent crime:
- Immediate crisis response available 24/7
- Coordinated mental health treatment, from crisis counseling through long-term therapy
- Help with practical needs (safety, housing, legal navigation, financial assistance)
- Body-based healing through our Healing Arts programs
- Long-term support as you define what wellness means for you
- No wrong door—whatever you need, we help you access it
By 2027, Solace will become South Dakota's first designated Trauma Recovery Center—a nationally recognized model of comprehensive care for victims of violent crime.
Why This Matters
For too long, survivors have had to navigate fragmented systems, repeat their stories to multiple providers, and piece together their own recovery. The TRC model—and Solace's commitment to it—means you no longer have to do this alone. We provide coordinated, comprehensive care that honors your whole journey from crisis to recovery to wellness.

After Crisis: Continued Support
Crisis care is just the beginning. When you're ready, Solace offers comprehensive services to support your long-term healing journey.
