# A Mother’s Story, A Community’s Responsibility: Why Cultivating Courage Matters

When Patty sits down to share her daughter’s story, her voice carries both unimaginable loss and unwavering love. Her daughter’s life was taken by domestic violence — a reality no family should ever have to face. Yet Patty chose to speak, to honor her daughter, and to help ensure other families never experience the same pain.
Her courage reflects the heart of the work happening every day at Solace.
## **A Glimpse Into the Work We Do**
Domestic violence is not a single moment — it’s a pattern of harm that impacts survivors, families, and entire communities. At Solace, we walk alongside people at every stage of their journey: crisis response, safety planning, advocacy, healing‑centered support, and long‑term empowerment.
Patty’s story is one of many that remind us why this work must continue. Why showing up matters. Why community matters.
This video offers a glimpse into that mission — the grief, the strength, and the hope that shape every step we take with survivors and families.

Each year, Cultivating Courage brings our community together to support survivor‑centered services across our region. It’s more than an event — it’s a commitment to ensuring safety, dignity, and healing for those impacted by violence.
